Learn About Essential Oils
Why Use Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the life force of plants. They are distilled from flowers, trees, roots, and bark. This process is specialized and what allows the essential oil to keep their properties, benefits and high concentration if properly grown, distilled and packaged. Young Living takes pride in their Seed to Seal Process meaning no pesticides, no additives, batches tested prior to distribution. This is the Seed to Seal process (Read more about it here)
Did you know there are not strict labeling laws? Are you sure what is under your label is truly pure?? Young Living has their own farms and distilleries which makes the QUALITY and PURITY of their oils the reason I only TRUST and USE Young Living Essential Oils.
Essential Oils have been in existence since the beginning of time. They have been called “mankind’s first medicine”. There are over 200 references to essential oils mentioned in the most read book on Earth “The Holy Bible”.
How Do I Use Essential Oils?
Essential Oils are very potent, in fact much more potent than herbs. Peppermint Oil is an example of a very potent oil. You need only one drop of Young Living’s Peppermint oil to equal the equivalent of 28 cups of peppermint tea.
Internal use and even topical use is not safe with just any essential oil. I only use and trust Young Living’s brand! They are pharma-grade, therapeutically pure. Most of the oils can be taken internally (always read your label). You can use them orally by making capsule sublingual (under your tongue), placing a few drops in 1 oz. of juice or almond milk is another great way to take the oils internally.
You can also diffuse or inhale the oils directly. You get a great diffuser with the purchase of your Premium Starter Kit.
Topical application is probably the most commonly used method. Using the vitaflex points on the feet are a great way to target certain organs or you can apply directly over the abdomen, for example, with GI upset. Using a warm compress over an area helps to drive the oil in deeper and faster. Topical application takes 2-3 minutes to reach the bloodstream, 20 min for it to effect all cells, metabolism occurs in 2 ½ hrs or so. Inhaling the oils take approximately 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain. Topical application is also very safe with children.
A couple of safety concerns I will mention is that the oils are fat soluble, not water soluble. If the oil is considered a “hot” oil like peppermint or thieves you likely will want to dilute with a carrier oil. Young Living’s V-6 oils is a great choice and stays liquid (great for diluting oil in your capsules). You can also use an oil like organic coconut oil or organic sweet almond oil. If ever an oil feels warm to your skin, dilute it with oil. Do not try to wash off with water as this will only increase the oil’s intensity.
Do not get oil into your eyes, it will burn. If you should happen to touch your eye after applying oil, use a carrier oil around your eye to stop the burning. (Trust me, speaking from experience, it hurts!)
You should not drop oil directly into the ear canal.
